WHAT IS THE USA DANCE TEAM?
Being selected allows dancers to represent their country and compete
internationally. Dancers travel to Europe and compete in an Olympic style event against 30+ nations who
all vie for Gold, Silver or Bronze medals. This event is organized by the International Dance Organization
(IDO) – www.ido-dance.com. The IDO website includes the history, mission statement, rules, schedules and
all other pertinent information you may want or need.
HOW DO I GET ON THE USA TEAM?
Any routine that earns a gold or ultimate gold award at an American
Dance Awards Regional Competition is eligible for placement on Team USA. The final selection will be
made through a video review process. Dancers/routines interested in competing for world titles will be re-
quired to submit a DVD of the performance. The final selection will be made by reviewing all video submis-
sions by a panel of qualified IDO judges. The video review will be held at the Sheraton New York Hotel, 811
7th Avenue, New York, NY 10019 on Sunday, July 21, 2013. Times to be announced. The review is open to all
teachers, choreographers and parents at no charge. Attendance is not required for selection to the USA
Team. Dancers who do not attend an American Dance Awards Regional are still eligible to submit videos
for the selection process for an additional charge. (See Entry Fees)
HOW DO THE EVENTS RUN?
The world events are run Olympic style with performers from nations worldwide
participating. Due to the number of dancers/routines competing, dancers compete in rounds and can
be eliminated or move on to the next round. There are preliminary, quarter finals, semi-finals and then the
finals where the top six in each category compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals just like in the Olym-
pics. There is an official awards ceremony, again just like the Olympics, where the dancers are presented
with their medals. The national anthem of the gold medal country is played and the flags from the top
three countries are raised.

The United States
Dancesport Team was established to provide the opportunity for dancers to
compete in annual World Show Dance and Hip Hop Championships. Dancers from
around the world will compete for world titles along with dancers representing
40 or more other countries. Many talented young people, because of lack of
financial means, are denied the chance to compete. It is the goal of this
organization to raise money to supply airfare, hotel, food and team uniforms to
approximately 100 dancers each year.DISCIPLINESBallet/Pointe •

Determining Age Levels For World Competition
A
competitor’s age division is determined by his or her year of birth as
it falls within the calendar year of the competition.Duos: For duos or
couples, the eldest partner’s date of birth determines the age division.
A partner no more than two years younger than the lower age limit may
dance in an older division, but the age span cannot exceed three years.Example,
One dancer is 10 and one is 13, they may dance in the Junior Division
but if the youngest dancer is only 9 they may not.
Note 1:
While younger dancers may dance “up” an age division, the reverse is
not possible and older dancers may not dance “down” a division.
Note 2:
A younger dancer who dances “up” a division as outlined above, such as a
child of 11 dancing in the Junior Duo division, MUST dance in that age
division in the category for the remainder of the competition year. He
or she may NOT dance in the children’s division with a different
partner, but he or she COULD dance in the younger children’s division in
Small Group, Formation or Production.
Small Group and Formation: Younger dancers may dance in an older age division under the following condition.•
10 & 11 year old dancers may dance in the Junior age division as
long as they do not outnumber the older dancers. 9 year old and under
are not allowed to dance in an older age division• 14 & 15 year
old dancers may dance in the Adult division as long as they do not
outnumber the older dancers. Dancers who are 13 and under are not
allowed to dance in the older age division.
NOTE I HAVE TAKEN OUT SENIOR
AGE DIVISION AS IT NO LONGER EXISTS.
