Why I Love To Dance Once upon a time, there was a boy. He was three years old, lived in Baltimore, and loved to dance. He would dance at preschool sometimes and in the middle of the living room at home. Dance helped him show who he was to himself and others. He could do anything. When he danced, he wasn’t in the living room anymore. He was in the sky, or in a castle somewhere that nobody knew about except him. He loved to dance no matter what people said. Everyday when this boy went to his four-year-old preschool class he’d hear at least one comment about him being girly every day. That’s another reason he kept dancing. To prove those people wrong. So what if he danced? So what if he liked to play with girls, and liked the color pink? He would dance off the insults like he was a duck letting droplets of water hit him and roll off his back. When he danced, he was the center of the universe and nothing was more important than him. Suddenly, it didn’t matter if Rihanna and her boyfriend broke up again, or if the Mayan apocalypse was going to happen (which it never does), it was all him. He was truly happy. As he grew up a little and started going to a dancing school, he got more and more of these insults. While he was dancing, he started asking himself questions like, “Why do they care so much if I dance?” Another reason he danced was because it set him apart from all those narrow minded people. When this boy danced and felt the cool wind rush through his hair as he did a jump, he felt a light inside of him shining out, like nothing could bring him down. The boy continued to grow and mature but he was still passionate about dancing. When people would make fun of him, he would feel almost sorry for them because they hadn’t experienced the indescribable happiness that he had felt. As he made friends at his all boy’s school, he got teased less and less until he was barely teased at all. This boy’s name is Alex DeVito, he is now 11-year-old, he dances at MCPA, and this boy who loves dancing is me. The End
